Fate/Stay Night - 01
The new season of anime has arrived! But whether any of them are any good is another question. First up - we have the pre-licensed Fate/Stay Night, which just goes to show Geneon that there will always be people subbing licensed anime. ;)
Since this is a suppoedly big hitting anime of 2006, it has to impress me! I mean the animation was all well and good - but what about the characters?
The opening half of the episode starts of being predictably mysterious and rather depressing. We are introduced to the main male character called Emiya, who has strange visions of a rather cool looking sword which we all know belongs to Saber. (Surprise surprise!) Emiya lives with his homeroom teacher who acts like a bimbo and a girl named Sakura who's obviously got a crush on him - yep it can only mean it was based on a hentai love sim! Emiya has powers too, he can trace metallic objects and find their composition. I have no idea what for, as all he did was angst over his dead father throughout the whole episode! My predicition: The father faked his own death and now teh Evilz!
From I gathered plot-wise, the world has magicians who can summon 'servants' ala Mai-Otome. Except we are not supposed to know Emiya is a magician and he summons Saber (probably.) Of course a girl in the next class called Rin, has already summoned her Dante DMC clone and they think they can take over the world! Then moar angst FTW!
The slow pacing and the fact that nothing really happened, made me feel I was watching AIR all over again! For what slight humour that was present, would appeal to those Bleach fanboys as it did not make me laugh at all. But this episode was better than Bleach's first episode..just! All I can say that was outstanding was the music (It sounds like something out of Vampire Princess Miyu..so I'm thinking Kenji Kawai composed it.) animation and Saber! The sad fact that Saber was not in the first episode at all, just proves how dire the other characters are so far. But we shall see what holds in store for loser, Rin and her Dante clone!
Overall: 6/10
Not a great first episode, not that bad either. Still, it's better than Bleach - which can only be a good thing! :D I just hope it gets more interesting next episode, or else I'll be dumping it into the pile of slush!
